Dave and Gill Update
Well we’ve arrived after an eventful journey - heavy snow, flight arrived an hour late at Abu Dhabi leaving us 25 mins for connection by the time we actually arrived in the airport, a 20 min sprint to get across to another terminal, utterly chaotic security system where people were throwing their belongings onto the conveyor belt, (everyone seemed to be late), beepers going off and no-one knew who it was (sad to say I lost my belt), past another check where we were told we were too late then onto another bus and out to a waiting plane. Phew! Unfortunately our luggage didn’t make the connection. We managed to buy toothbrushes at midnight at the airport, and that was all we arrived with. We were exhausted
Yesterday Dave & Pyn collected the luggage, we had meetings with Pyn and Hannah, Andy and Jonathan, which were very helpful and set the agenda for our time here. We viewed an apartment available for 2 months, which will be OK after a thorough spring clean and equipping with some essentials. Sadly it is nothing like the last one in terms of location, it will be a drive to the sea, but there is a roof terrace which can be used (if I can find a deckchair). The locals and Asians don't bother with outside space, it’s us westerners who like a bit of garden or terrace to sit in.
One big surprise is it’s quite cold, definitely jeans and pullover weather, about 18C, cold at night. Apparently it will heat up quickly next month.
Dave had another meeting last night, and speaking today. Hopefully we move into the apartment on Sunday though we just heard there is three days of mourning for the adjacent King which could put things on hold. Requests for stamina and settling in to go well please, for everything we need to be provided as it’s rather basic, absolutely nothing in the kitchen yet advertised as fully furnished!
