The Story So Far

Prophetic Beginnings

Church in the peak was birthed back in 1987 in response to the prophetic promise of God visiting the Peak District with His presence and the desire to seek more of His Holy Spirit. There were two particular prophetic pictures at that time, one was of God’s fire breaking out across the Peaks resulting in many fires, the other was of the river of God flowing across the area.

“I will make rivers flow on barren heights and springs within the valleys”

Isaiah 41:18

Church Growth

In response to this, along with other prophetic encouragements, Dave & Gill Harper began a small meeting in their home. This quickly grew and a Sunday meeting in Bakewell was launched in spring 1987. In the years since then, God has been adding to our number and we’ve outgrown meeting place after meeting place, gradually moving down the A6 until we purchased our own building in Matlock called The Lime Tree.

The Prophetic

One powerful prophetic picture in the early days is of God’s river flowing from the Peak District and affecting the towns & cities surrounding the Peak District. This is part of our mission and we look to God to make ways for this to be fulfilled.

Since the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy (Rev 19:10), then this is all about Jesus and is all for Jesus; our desire is that He be made famous. Prophecy brings revelation of Jesus.
